Marie Pierre SusanneCarlon, the mother of Etienne Carriau was the daughter of François Carlon and Julienne Chomben, both of St. Domingue. They had at least four children, all born in St. Domingue, although by the time of Marie's birth, the country had changed its name to Haiti.
According to early New Orleans City Directories, François, fils, was a carpenter, located first on Giron Street and later on Nayades between Terpsichore and Melpomene Streets. Etienne was a cordwainer, located on Tchoupitoulas Street and Louis was a merchant tailor.
